Booking Through Thursday: A Second First Time

What book would you love to be able to read again for the first time?

I love this week's question as I have never really thought about this! I am probably going to sound a bit obsessive now as I go on about it so much but I would love to read Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier again for the first time as it really is my favourite book plus it introduced me to a fantastic writer whose work I am still reading and enjoying today.
I would also have to say Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, I had such a brilliant teacher at school for this who gave me a real love for Austen. I fell in love with this book the first time that I read it, I think that Elizabeth Bennett is one of the greatest literary characters created (Mr Rochester is not bad either).
Arrgggh there's so many books that I would love to read again for the first time, I have to mention Ralph's Party by Lisa Jewell too. Again this is because it introduced me to such a good writer, Lisa Jewell is often categorised as a chick lit writer and I can see that but for me personally, she just has the edge over other writers in that genre. I have read all her books and she is an author who truly inspires me to write myself.

I haven't read Rebecca but I'd love to read P&P again and again! :P

Melody- I think P&P is one of those books that you can read again and again without it getting boring!

Thanks for reminding me about Pride and Prejudice. I'm a Jane Austen fan too.

I would love to read Rebecca too, but that would be because I read that book when I was in college and I would like to read it again to see if I like it more (I loved it back then too)

Violet- it's nice to go back and read books a few years later. I know that I have got more from books that I read at school by reading them again a few years later.

Pride & Prejudice is one of my picks too, along with Jane Eyre. I have such a different take on P&P as an adult

I feel in love with P & P with my second reading in college. Have not read Ralph's Party.

Nicole- I agree, I read P&P at school but I understood it so much more when I re-read it again when I was a little bit older!

I loved Pride and Prejudice but never read Rebecca. I should though because it is one of my fave movies -- great answer.

I want to read Rebecca (I've seen the film and liked it).

What do you think of the P&P films? Do you have a favorite Darcy???

Dot said...

Mary- I love the Pride and Prejudice films! I watched the latest one with Keira Knightley only last week. My favourite Mr Darcy though has to be Colin Firth in the BBC series, he is brilliant!

I chose P & P as well. Here is A Second First Time

I chose P&P, too. Rebecca is another good answer.

Me, too, Dot - about Colin Firth. But he and I are in the same age demographic. Nice to know he's appreciated across that line, lol.

There IS something about the scene at the end of the most recent P&P when Darcy comes walking through the early morning mist to Lizzie. So romantic!

Books that have surprise ending or a twist would be refreshing to me. I also read my favorite books, like Name of the Rose and The Master and Margarita.

I haven't read Rebecca but I have read Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier and I really liked it. I'm going to check my local library for more books by her next time I visit there.

I must take a look at the author Lisa Jewell, she is new to me.

Here is my BTT post.

I loved Rebecca and P&P.

I'm reading P&P right now and I love it. I wish I had more time to sit down with it though. It's not one of those books you can ready for just 20 minutes at a time.

Though I love P&P and have recently fallen madly for Rebecca, the book I would read again for the first time is Lord of The Rings, by JRR Tolkien. I adore this book and have read it many times, have even watched the three movies which tell the story well enough, but for me, did not quite capture the mystery and magic which is woven into Tolkien's prose. The first time I read it I was enchanted and that spell has never been broken.

Mary- I know exactly which scene you mean! It always makes me feel all tingly! The music in that film is beautiful as well.

Rebecca is a great choice. The element of surprise and revelation that you can never re-capture on a re-read.

I could read P&P over and over too and always wonder what books, if any, of our generation will still be loved in 200 years time! Maybe that's a question for another day!

Vicki- thanks for visiting my blog! I would like to think that P&P will still be enjoyed in 200 years time.

All change here!

I have made the decision to stop doing written reviews on here for a little while. I shall keep this page open but for the time being I sha...
